ATELIÊ XONGANI
Rebrand of Ateliê Xongani, a clothing atelier ran by mother and daughter, creating fashion inspired by Angolan textile fabrics brought by Ana and her mother more than 10 years ago. Was created glyphs for each letter of the word ‘Xongani’ based on the most fundamental part of sewing: the stitch. We also worked together on the first collection "Tereza de Benguela". Free hand drawings compose the prints that visually explore absurd shapes that together form a harmonic composition.
TEREZA DE BENGUELA OR QUEEN TEREZA AS SHE USED TO BE CALLED, LIVED IN THE 18TH CENTURY AND WAS A BLACK WOMAN AND QUILOMBOLA LEADER OF THE QUILOMBO DO PIOLHO. THE ABSURDITY IS THE THEME OF THE ILLUSTRATION SERIES, A WAY TO RESIGNIFY THE SO-CALLED MADNESS SUFFERED AT THE END OF HER LIFE. TEREZA WASN'T HALLUCINATING, SHE WAS JUST BUILDING HER DREAMS OF FREEDOM.
